What Are Molds?

Molds are a sub grouping of the larger “family” of Fungi. The main unit of reproduction for molds is their spores, which are dispersed throughout the environment in many ways.  Molds are involved with producing antibiotics, food production, the degradation of many forms of biodegradable materials in the environment, scientific research, and as agents of disease in both immune compromised and (sometimes) healthy individuals.

When is it appropriate to test for mold?  

Molds are present in nearly every environment around the world.  The problems with molds arise when they grow uncontrollably and extensively in and around our dwellings.  Many people react health-wise to the presence of molds differently, many of whom may not even notice or react to molds growing in the home.  On the other hand, if you feel that there may be cause for allergies and infections due to molds, it may be time to investigate your home for molds especially if they are discovered  covering a large area of space.

What should I do if I find mold in the house?

If you feel that you may require mold testing, or just feel curious as to what you may have found growing in your home, there are several ways to approach the situation:  consulting services are available for investigating the source(s) of mold growth, sample collection and testing, and any recommendations of what to do after the investigation is complete. For those that would like to take care of the problem without consultation, you may also choose to submit a sample to the laboratory by yourself.  This can be done using a tape lift, or by submitting a bulk sample of the material with suspected growth(s).

July was a busy month for Patriot. We were Hole-in-One sponsors at the Southern California Claims Association Summer Classic in Temecula on July 16th. We had a great time dusting off our leg warmers and teasing up our hair – 80’s style. On July 29-30th we were one of many exhibitors at the 19th Annual CACM Statewide Expo at the Disneyland Hotel. It was a pleasure to meet all Community Managers in attendance and introduce them to our services. We are already looking forward to next year’s event.
